Our Story Unleashed
TopDawg XL originated from my enthusiastic fascination with this often misunderstood breed. During my childhood, my love for pit bulls traces back to my family’s pit bull puppy named Mia. Having her left an incredibly lasting impression and is truly the root of my innate love for the breed. Tragically, she ran away one Fourth of July due to her fear of fireworks and was never found. This could have been prevented with more breed-appropriate training—something that, sadly, continues to plague this loving and genuine breed on a national level.
In my early 20s, my passion for the breed remained just as strong. This was also when I was introduced to the relatively new subspecies known as XL Bullies. After doing my fair share of research regarding genetics and the breed’s history, I started browsing the national market. That’s when I came across a stunning puppy with immaculate genes—his name was Mecca. He was part of a litter from a renowned and iconic bloodline within the XL Bully community. I knew I needed to act. This puppy represented the pinnacle of what I wanted to build my business around, due to my deep concern for quality and healthy offspring to represent the brand.
Shortly after discovering him, I flew from Oregon to Wisconsin to pick him up. Unexpectedly—and in the way divine intervention often works—I came across Mia on the drive back home. She also checked all my subconscious boxes and turned out to be a match made in heaven for my newly acquired pup. The journey home was nothing short of hectic but incredibly rewarding. Twelve-hour stretches of driving, numerous hotel stops, and the challenge of managing two feisty pups was a small but worthwhile price to pay to ensure that my business would live up to every expectation placed on it.
As you read this today, I’ve learned a lot about the breed—and I’ve had an amazing time doing so. I take great pride in my dogs’ upbringing, and I can confidently assure anyone fortunate enough to bring one of these pups home that they will check all the boxes. Mild-mannered, obedient, loving, caring, and intelligent are at the top of my priorities. Beyond my deep-rooted love for the breed, I strive to deliver the best puppies, inside and out. Through this commitment, I hope this breed can finally be appreciated for both its external and internal beauty—and that the negative stigmas become a thing of the past.
TopDawg XL began offering litters in 2022 with Mecca and Mia, which led to the birth of “Luna,” the magnificent Lilac Merle split-face, who now represents the next generation of TopDawg.
